bee&sallie began with a simple idea - creating beautiful things by hand.
Founder Dee Brinton grew up surrounded by creativity, inspired by a family of musicians, artisans, and makers. Designing and creating has always been a natural part of her life, and jewelry became a way to turn that creativity into pieces that others could wear and enjoy.
The name bee&sallie comes from a small moment close to home. A neighbour affectionately called Dee “Bee” and her daughter “Sallie,” and the name quickly felt like the perfect fit for a brand rooted in family, creativity, and a love for the little things that bring meaning to everyday life.
Today, every bee&sallie piece is thoughtfully designed and handcrafted in Nova Scotia using leather and natural materials like metal, stone, glass, and wood. Each design is created in small batches with a focus on lightweight comfort, timeless style, and pieces that feel as unique as the person wearing them.
How bee&sallie Began...
Like many true 90s girls, Dee has always loved a good statement - a great pair of cowboy boots, a fringed jean jacket, or a pair of standout earrings. One day she remembered thinking… wouldn’t it be fun to have earrings that matched her favourite boots?
The problem was that most statement earrings were heavy, or they didn’t come in the colours and styles she loved. So she decided to try making her own.
Using old gloves and even dismantling a leather jacket, she started experimenting with leather. She made a pair of earrings… then another… and before long friends and strangers alike were asking where they could get them.
What started as a creative experiment quickly grew into a small-batch leather jewelry business. Each piece is thoughtfully handcrafted, often using remnant or repurposed leather, giving new life to materials while creating something unique and lightweight to wear.
Over the years, they’ve been incredibly fortunate to partner with amazing retailers who have helped share their designs with customers who love bold, expressive accessories just as much as they do.
What began with a favourite pair of boots has grown into a business rooted in creativity, craftsmanship, and a love for pieces that help people express their own style.
A Little Something for the Bees...
Every bee&sallie order includes a small piece of seed paper - a simple way to give something back to the bees that inspired our name.
The paper can be planted in a garden, flower bed, or even along a walking trail. With a little water and sunlight, it grows into wildflowers that help support pollinators and bring a bit more beauty into the world.
It’s a small gesture, but one that reflects the spirit behind bee&sallie - creating things that are thoughtful, meaningful, and connected to nature.
